Winter Traditions

winter-holidaysI love Winter and I feel honored and excited to celebrate the holiday season.  Unfortunately for many people it is a time filled with feelings of stress, anxiety, and guilt. Certainly, we all want to have a stress-free and fun holiday season with our loved ones, and yet sometimes in spite of our best intentions, we get caught up with family obligations, commercial frenzy, and financial forays. The rich activities that begin right after Halloween, builds to Thanksgiving, and continue the momentum through the end of the year with the holiday parties.  The stress around this time of the year can leave us depleted and we may question what the holiday season is really about?  Many of us know that chronic stress causes imbalance in cortisol levels and deplete vital nutrients in our body. This combination can exacerbate current health issues and can ignite new concerns.

So what can we do to reduce stress, and keep our holiday spirit sparkled?  I am grateful to share some useful tips to set intention and attention on peace and gratefulness this holiday season.

Love yourself: I find it very useful to take a holistic approach in caring for myself and others. Spending time revisiting values and guided principles that we strive to live from is a great foundation to identify what is important, and true to us when facing a challenging situation.

For example with family and friends, it is important to be aware of our limitations. Learning how to say “no” instead of “yes” can be an act of self- love.  It’s okay to sets limits on what we are not willing to do, or be. Having some boundaries helps us to prevent stress, over-indulgence, and holiday blues. Too many activities, even if they are fun activities, can culminate in too much holiday stress and leave us feeling frazzled rather than fulfilled. So, setting our priorities, choosing a few, enjoying them fully and skipping the rest is probably the best gift we could give to ourselves, and others.

Deeper Connections: The winter time gives us an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves, with our loved ones, old friends, and our community. Expressing gratitude for what we have, for the feelings, the memories we share, for the beauty of nature brings joy in our heart and soul. It simply feels good to connect more deeply with each other as we take time to listen to each other, and share feelings and experiences. We can also take time to play with kids, and be more like one. It is a fun way to relax.

Make conscious choices to eat healthy food:  I have a few patients in Hawi who know their food triggers.  These smart women plan ahead and eat healthy nutritious food before going to a party. This helps them to keep blood sugar in check and prevent them from eating junk food. So be selective, aware of your food intake, and practice mindful eating. This will prevent sugar crash, mood swings, as well as overindulgence of food consumption. And yes, you can still savor your favorite treat!

Get plenty of physical activity: When our schedule gets hectic, get creative!  Jump rope during TV commercials, breathe in and exhale deeply, dance in the kitchen or take a brisk walk.

Get quality rest: In Oriental Medicine, the theory is that during the winter months it is beneficial to get more sleep than during the rest of the year. Good sleep boosts our energy, helps with concentration, memory and mood.

Quiet restful reflective time: Whether or not we follow an ancient religious observance such as Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, or Pagan celebration, this time of the year has close ties with the laws and cycles of our solar and planetary system.  We human beings are an integral part of nature that affects us in visible and invisible ways, and in this time of the year we can reclaim our connection to Heaven and Earth that touches every aspect of our life.
free-ice-crystal2The Ancient Wisdom of seasonal traditions offers us a chance to experience the rebirth of our own spiritual nature.  As nature retreats back to herself in winter, we too can find some quiet restful and reflective time. Perhaps we can surrender to our own inner light, to the natural transformative power that guides us through the dark times like a beacon that reminds us that the seed of light is always present inside of us.

May we find the courage to slow down and let the light and love shine through the cracks of our tender heart.

Whatever tradition you choose to celebrate, may your holidays be shared with good friends and family, and be filled with healthy nutritious food, laughter, light, joy, and love.

The Power of Conscious Choice Using the Science of Muscle Testing – Part 2

image007Chocolate or strawberry? Life or death? Life is an unending flow of choices and decisions. Everything we do or don’t do is inherently connected to a choice we make. Some people make choices quickly and easily.  Others agonize over every choice, having a hard time deciding what to do and how to do it.  Some question whether we really even have free will, and others believe it is well within our power to make choices that will lead to greater well-being.

image004Regardless how we arrive to decisions we make, our perception is subjective. Most of us justify our choices, rationalize them and call them “good, or OK”, because of some certain habitual conditions that suit our belief system.  We can lie to ourselves and talk ourselves into just about anything. We form opinions, entertain delusions and we give our ego too much slack.  We judge and we are influenced by biases, reason, emotions, and mostly from past memories.

Most of us make a lot of decisions based on what we think we should do, have to, must do… but are these choices aligned with our highest good?  Would we rather have conscious awareness of our thoughts and our actions in making decisions?

So what is our choice?

There is a quote in the muscle testing world that says: “I may not know, you may not know, but your body knows.”  The body doesn’t lie. Actually, it can’t. It doesn’t differentiate between labels that our mind assigns to things such as good or bad.

image002Our body is a very powerful communication tool. Based on the concept of internal energy fundamental to TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) Muscle Testing (MT) responds and operates through interactions among the mind, autonomic nervous system, muscles, and the subconscious mind. The soma and viscera communicate with the nervous system both chemically and neurologically. The inner intelligence of our body, actually, our ”gut” has the innate ability in an instant to discern between positive, life supportive, what is true to us and life detrimental negative energy. This distinction is a gift that has always existed within our DNA.

The body lives in the present- now time, it can differentiate snake venom from sweet lemonade. Research shows that the more we engage all parts of our being, our positive thoughts, emotions, perceptions, social interactions and spiritual pursuits, the more it enhances our brain’s function, and therefore our life.  So it is of upmost importance to focus on the positive — on love, forgiveness, optimism, compassion, and inclusiveness.

image005By contrast, negative thoughts, feelings of anger, fearful and resentful proclamations — cause the primitive parts of our brain to release a cascade of stress-evoking neurochemicals that damage our heart and brain, especially those circuits responsible for suppressing destructive emotions and thoughts.

MT is an excellent way to experience both the hardwired integration of our body, nervous system, and quantum reality first hand. This quantum reality works with Quantum entanglement. At the unconscious level you know everything I know, and I know everything you or your body knows. For example, you have knowledge of the supplements you are taking and what they do, and your body knows what it needs. MT enables your body to communicate to me what supplements work best for you. Simple and revolutionary! That revolution speaks of the evolutionary process of the awakening consciousness of the inner wisdom of the body. No need to look outside for answers, they are within us.

The ancient Vedic Sanskrit said that: “humans are physical spiritual beings living in a purposeful universe of unlimited cosmic consciousness”. This means that we are energy beings interacting with energy in the entire energy field. Our body is energy and information, not just solid matter. We are energy beings living in a world of energy.

We are connected to patterns of intelligence that govern the entire cosmos. Our body is not separate from other people, nature, animals…etc…. The notion of being separate from one another is an illusion…. A dream… a story that we have created. We are all connected, entangled, interacting with each other. Every thought, feeling, action, object, and event is permanently recorded in this universal “database” and may be accessed by everyone instantaneously.

Here we are local folks, infinite beings, quantum beings, living in a vehicle for the expression of higher consciousness with all its attributes, infinite powers and possibilities of making conscious choices. When we recognize the truth about our divine nature- life, the universe inside of us – inseparable partners in a timeless embrace, then it is easier to understand we can have access to all different kinds of information. Muscle testing gives us that access.

MT is a conscious phenomenon, a psychosomatic process permeated with many nuances. Many have mastered the somatic aspect of the process, but few are aware of the neurological aspects, or the depths of the role of emotion, mind, intuition, and empowerment it plays.

In my practice and teaching, I blend MT with Energy Psychology techniques (EFT, Tapping, Psych K, NAET, EMDR) the synergetic uses of these modalities enhance each other.  One identifies the root cause of imbalance and the other relieves the emotional distress stored in the body and beliefs associated with most psychological issues. Energy Psychology is a unique and direct way to access, identify and change subconscious beliefs that perpetuate old habits and behaviors.

Besides monitoring the operation of the body, the subconscious mind is a timeless computer, recording everything that has happened in our lives. it is the storehouse for our attitudes, values and beliefs.  These beliefs are the cumulative effect of life-long experiences. These beliefs stored in the subconscious are drawn in the present moment as if they just occurred.  As a result of past negative experiences, we sometimes think and behave in self-defeating ways, even when we consciously don’t want to. These memories can be identified with MT and Energy psychology can be used to clear negative patterns, and free us from the entanglement of our unwanted “stories”.
When our conscious and subconscious mind comes in agreement, our life seems to flow harmoniously.

Many of my patients have changed beliefs that sabotaged their physical health, self-esteem, relationships, goals, and job performance. Can you imagine how different our lives would be if we were able to choose wisely what food supports our health, what doctor to choose, what supplements to take and how much, where to locate emotional potential disturbances in our body energy system, where to go for vacation, which supportive environment to be in, party to go to, and the list can be endless.

Above all Muscle Testing is a gift of self-empowerment. I cannot adequately express what a profound impact Muscle Testing has had and still continues to have on my personal and professional life. This incredible tool is physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually unlimited.

If you desire to cultivate a richer experience of your true nature and if you are seeking to respond to life with greater clarity and wisdom, I welcome you to take my workshop on conscious choice using muscle testing May 14th 15th in Hawi.  I am looking forward to seeing you there.

The Power of Conscious Choice using the Art and Science of Muscle Testing

This article has two parts. Part 1 is the understanding of Muscle Testing and in Part 2, we will explore the healing field of Energetic Psychology, and the Power of Conscious Choices.

choose your path

Do you know that the body holds the knowledge of the universe right at our finger tips,  that we have the capacity, the power to heal, and to choose a life that supports us the most? Indeed, each one of us possesses a computer far more advanced that the most elaborate artificial intelligence machine available – the human mind itself. What a stupendous mystery the human body is! 125 billion miles of DNA, 50 trillion cells each an individual, cooperating, communicating with the speed of light throughout our whole system, carrying the memory of the whole story of creation from the origin of the universe to us in this moment.  It is sensitive to our thought and intention, and ready to evolve with our consciousness!

The body has an unlimited potential to create, transform and heal, and yet, many people go through their life accepting their current situation thinking they do not have any choice to “upgrade” their life. Actually we are made to intentionally co-create life in partnership with Source.  We have the ability to choose how we live our life, not to let life simply happen to us.

Knowledge is power, and with the amazing emerging field of Bio-Energetic Medicine that combines ancient wisdom with modern science, we are able to access higher guidance through the innate intelligence of the body wisdom. There are many bio-energetics modalities available; the one I am writing about is Muscle Testing with the blend of Energy Psychology techniques such as EFT, NAET, TAT, and EMDR.  Those methods bring current knowledge of the energetic nature of the body-mind-spirit connection and therefore give us more understanding in choosing what supports our well-being.

Muscle testing can access information that might not be available to the conscious mind, and with Energetic Psychology techniques we have the tools needed to clear issues and correct the energetic imbalance. Blending these powerful modalities, we can navigate safely through this critical time, releasing our past, and choose consciously that which supports our health and our environment.

O-Ring Muscle Test demo O-Ring Muscle Test demoSo what is Muscle Testing (MT)? It is a non- invasive test method first developed by Dr. George Goodheart in applied kinesiology in the 1960’s.  MT is a modality that can identify and clear physical and emotional imbalances on all levels of health and well Being.   Muscle Testing exposes the intimate connection between mind and body, revealing that the mind “thinks” with the body itself.   MT can discern to the finest degree the difference between healthy choices, that which is supportive of life enhancing, and that which is harmful to us. It is easy to learn and can be used by anyone at any time you need it.

More than Meets the Muscles.  The uses of muscle testing are unlimited and self- directing.  The testing can be done for you by another person or you can do it yourself using various techniques. Some are very complex methodologies while others are very simple.  My favorite of all the techniques I’ve learned is the bio-digital O’ring testing from Dr. Omura MD, Professor Omura discovered the Bi-Digital O-Ring Test and acquired a U. S. patent for it. He is the medical research director of the Heart Disease Research Foundation.

In clinical practice I use MT to evaluate the state of general health and specific health issues. We identify nutritional status (vitamins, minerals, amino acid, neurotransmitters, glandular, hormonal imbalance) and establish dosage, compatibility.  We also evaluate acupuncture trigger points, organs, and detect food and environmental allergies or sensitivities. With this information a personalized plan is created and implemented.

One of the great gifts of MT is its versatility.  Muscle testing bypasses the conscious mind and therefore accesses the inner wisdom of the body. It can be used in unlimited ways for every aspect of our life, from the mundane to the most profound. This multi-faceted method can identify not only health issues but work, family, financial, environmental emotional stress, and belief systems that are or helpful detrimental to us.

How does muscle testing work?

Picture1

The mind ‘thinks’ with the body itself!

The phenomenon of muscle testing operates through interactions between the internal energetics fundamental to traditional Chinese Medicine, bio-electrical reflexes, nervous system, muscle, ideomotor action, and sub-conscious mind. The involuntary response is measured when exposed to positive and negative stimuli. Consciousness is an invisible quality of life which has the unique property of reacting to a stimulus. If a true statement is spoken verbally or silently, the subconscious mind, the electrical and magnetic fields around the body actually becomes stronger and as a result an indicator muscle of the body also becomes stronger automatically in recognition of the truth. That which is true, beneficial, or pro-life gives a positive response. A strong muscle means a positive or “yes” response and a weak muscle means a negative or “no” response.

For example, if we place a substance on the body which is life-force enhancing, and thereby ensuring the survival of the body, the muscle response will be positive or a “yes” response. We are programmed for survival and love.

Conversely, if we place a substance on the body which is life force destructive, and thereby weakening the body, the muscle response will be negative or a “no” response.

When we say, think or hold something that resonates as false the subconscious mind, the electrical and magnetic fields around the body actually become weaker and as a result the muscles also become weaker.

For the first time in history, this revolutionary discovery in kinesiology testing was able to tell truth from falsehood about anything, anywhere in time and space. The test itself proved to be independent of personal opinion or belief.  MT treats the subconscious body like a lie detector, and the response is immediate.

Even though muscle testing can take the guess work and trial and error out of choice/questions you may have, it is not a magic crystal ball. It is a skill. It supports healthy decisions about our health, increases our inner peace, enriches our relationships, expands our prosperity, and helps us to embrace life to the fullest.

CHOICESThe capacity to tell the truth from falsehood is of profound importance because that is precisely what the human mind lacks in making choices that support our well-being. In each moment we have been given the capacity to choose between love and fear. I am so grateful to have a tool that promotes self- empowerment, trust, and the power to choose a co-partnership with the wisdom of the Body/Mind and Soul that dwells within each one of us.

If you feel moved to learn the Art and Science of Muscle Testing, or want to polish your skills, I am inviting you to take my workshop, May 14th and 15th  in Hawi. Please contact me if you are interested.

Prevention and Management of Dengue Fever

Aedes_aegyptiWhile the aedes aegypti mosquito spreads dengue fever, and the Health Department is doing its best to educate Hawaii residents in reducing the epidemic, how can we go about preventing dengue fever using natural remedies or treating dengue in the event we get infected? Our best protection is to educate ourselves and learn all we can so we can make wise decisions regarding our health and that of our family. So here is some pertinent information on dengue fever.

What is Dengue Fever?

Dengue fever is also known as “breakbone fever”.  Dengue fever is caused by four related viruses (DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 or DEN-4). The Dengue virus is a member of the virus family Flaviviridae. This acute flu like illness is related to those that cause yellow fever and West Nile virus infection.

How is it transmitted?

Dengue fever virus is not contagious. It is not spread from person to person. It requires a vector, a mosquito that allows the virus to mature within the mosquito before the mosquito can effectively transfer the viruses to humans.  However, if a person is bitten by a mosquito that carries Aedes aegypti virus during the initial febrile period of the dengue infection, the mosquito may become infected and transmit the dengue virus to the next person through its bite. Once infected, a mosquito is capable of transmitting the virus to susceptible individuals for the rest of its life.  (Only females bite, and they live 6 to 8 weeks)  The dengue virus circulates in the blood of the infected humans for 3-14 days (average 4 to 6 days).

What are the Symptoms?

Symptoms include sudden onset of fever, headache, muscle and joint pains. In some cases, rash (similar to measles) are accompanied by severe headache, retroorbital pain (pain behind the eyes), backache, sore throat, and abdominal pain.

The patients become lethargic and experience anorexia and nausea.

In a small proportion of cases, the disease can develop into the life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS), resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets, dehydration, low blood pressure, rapid & weak pulse. These patients often require additional supportive treatments and hospitalization.

Most people recover fully, although weakness and fatigue may last for several weeks.

Incubation period: Symptoms of infection usually start about four to 15 days (typically four to seven days) after a mosquito bite transfers the viruses to the human. In most instances, the disease lasts about 3 to 10 days.

Can dengue infection recur in a previously infected person?

After a person is infected with dengue, they develop an immune response to that dengue subtype. Infection with one type does not provide long term protection against other strains. There is also evidence that the risk of developing DHF/DSS is increased in the persons previously infected by another type.

Western Treatment

There is no specific antiviral treatment currently available for dengue fever.  Bed rest and acetaminophen (Tylenol) to treat fever and pain are recommended. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (aspirin (Bayer, Ecotrin), ibuprofen (Motrin), and other NSAIDs) should be avoided because of the tendency of the dengue viruses to cause hemorrhages.

Rehydration and blood testing can be necessary procedures that allopathic doctors perform.

Preventative Precautions to Keep Dengue Fever at Bay

Everyone is being urged to take precautions against mosquito infections. Together we can do it.

  • The best way to reduce mosquitoes is to eliminate the places inside and around your home where the mosquito lays her eggs. Stagnant water is a breeding ground for the mosquitoes so remove, or empty any container that may hold water including  pails and buckets, pet bowls, gutters, coolers, old tires, birth baths, recycling bins, and flower pots, etc…
  • Treat bromeliads and other plants that hold water. Flush weekly and spray with soapy water or chemical treatment.
  • Make sure your window and door screens do not have any holes. If so, block or repair those areas.
  • Apply mosquito repellents during the day as well as at night on a regular basis. Most commercial repellents contain DEET. Many studies suggest DEET may have harmful effects, including brain damage. Use natural insect-repellant lotions, apply often on the skin, as it wears off quickly (see recipe below)
  • Mosquitoes are attracted to certain chemical compounds on your skin, carbon dioxide, movement, heat and dark colors; they can sniff you out from 100 feet away. Wear long-sleeved shirts, pants and socks to protect yourself. Wear white or light colored clothing when you are likely to be exposed to mosquitoes bites.
  • Try to avoid outside activities at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are more active.
  • Fix leaky faucets and outdoor hoses that are dripping water.
  • Clean the gutter so water runs freely.
  • If possible use mosquito netting over beds.
  • Electric mosquito zapper: It is a mechanical device that uses ultraviolet light to attract mosquitoes and then kills them with its lethal dose of electricity. The side effect of this device is that it kills also the good bugs.
  • Make your own mosquito trap (check numerous sites on the internet)

Natural Health Strategies

Diet Management    – In order to fight the virus that affects the body, it is important to eat a healthy diet:

  • Eat and Drink Vegetables: Consumptions of fresh juices of carrots, cucumber, green leafy vegetables, cod liver oil, flax seed oils and fresh fruits help to improve platelet count.
  • Porridge: Remember to always give pureed and soft foods for people with dengue fever. Porridge is easily swallowed and digested, and has plenty of fluids.
  • Barley grass: Increase the blood platelet count of the body by stimulating more blood cells production.
  • Avoid saturated fats, refined sugar, processed food, salty, oily, and spicy food, and “junk” food.
  • Papaya leaf extract: Juice is prepared from crushed papaya and leaves. According to the 2011 research Journal of Ethnopharmacology, papaya leaves have anti- malarial properties. The complex mix of nutrients can cause a rise in your platelet count, the high levels of vitamin C help stimulate the immune system, and the antioxidants help to reduce oxidative stress and eliminate excess toxins in the blood. Doctors in India often give 2 /3 tablespoons of papaya leaf juice in the morning and evening for dengue patients.
  • Hydrate throughout the day: Dengue patients need lots of fluids.  Apart from drinking plenty of water, take orange and lime juice, watermelon, pomegranate, guava, kiwi, and papaya juice.  Drinks containing electrolytes such as coconut water are recommended.
  • Ginger water: Drink ginger water as it reduces the effects of nausea that often is experienced.

   Herbal Medicine Management

Herbal medicine stimulates the immune system as a whole, helping the body to fight infection, bacteria and viruses by increasing the amount of white blood cells.

  • Echinacea angustifolia: Boosts the immune system and reduces many of the symptoms of colds, flu and some other viral infections conditions.
  • Astragalus (Huang Qi) Tonifies the body’s energy/Qi levels. Traditionally, this herb is known to boost the immune system, particularly for respiratory infections and increases the production of Interferon.
  • Goldenseal: Helps to ease vomiting, nausea; headaches, chills and fevers as well as its natural antiviral capacity.
  • Neem leaves: Properly brewed leaves can help to improve the body’s immune system. Helps to increase the white blood cell and platelet count.
  • Yarrow, elderflower and peppermint diaphoretic tea blend; These herbs are amphoteric, meaning that they can lower body temperature if it is too high.
  • Fenugreek: It is known for reducing fever and it acts as a sedative to promote restful sleep and ease pain of the patients.
  • Fu Fang E Jiao Jiang: According to “You Sufu”, a public health expert from Indonesia this is a traditional Chinese medicine used for improving hemoglobin and lowering hematocrit to a stable level.
  • Quinine: from Chinchona bark, is added to tonic water as a prophylactic against malaria. As with other quinoline antimalarial drugs, the mechanism of action of quinine is not fully understood.

Homeopathy  Management

Homeopathy for Dengue has been used successfully in other countries such as India, and Brazil.  The selection of homoeopathic remedies depends upon the individual symptoms. Homeopathy may not totally prevent dengue, but at least it attenuates the symptoms, and makes for a milder case of the illness.

  • Dengue Prevention Formula: Ana Teresa Doria Dreux, Professor CRM from Brazil recommends RHUS TOX/ EUPATORIUM PERF/ CHINA OFF/ LEDUM PALUSTRE/ GELSEMIUM formula, 6 C dilution. Take 3 globules once a day while the epidemic season lasts. Another formula from Dana Ullman MPH, CCH, a leader in homeopathy is Eupatorium perfoliatum, Crotalus, Phosphorus, Natrum Muriaticum and Arsenicum.
  • Dengue Treatment Formula: Take the above formulas, 3 globules every two hours. As the symptoms improve, take once every 3 hours, and once every 4 hours, etc… until complete remission of the symptoms.
  • Eupatorium Perfoliatum: 30C is the remedy for severe muscle and bone/joint pains with high fever. Take twice a day during the outbreak.
  • Ledum: Ledum palustre is the remedy for “puncture wounds” and therefore a good first aid remedy to prevent the ill effects of mosquito bites including infectious diseases associated with mosquitos.
  • Normal Dengue Fever: Eupatorium perfolium 200 or 1M can be taken once daily for three days and subsequently at least two doses a week at the interval of three to four day till the epidemic persist for the prevention of dengue fever. Furthermore Arsenic alb + Bryonia + Echinacea angustifolia + Ledum pal + Rhus tox in 30 potency should be taken once in a day for at least 2 weeks.
  • In case of High Fever: Take Aconite 1M and Eupatorium 1M alternatively, after every 30 minutes immediately on start fever. Just take 3 doses of each remedy. If the symptoms persist, contact your physician.
  • In dengue hemorrhagic fever (DFH): Add the following two medicines to the above treatment: Phosphorus 12c, Crotalus 12c Take 4 globules in the evening until the platelets return to normal. China, Ipecac and Arsenic Album is another formula. These remedies are not to replace any necessary medical services.

  Vitamins / Minerals  Management

  • Vitamin B1 as a mosquito repellant: Sold as Betamine in pharmacies. Vitamin B1 make the blood bitter and produces a skin odor that female mosquitoes seem to find offensive. Take 100mg daily.
  • B complex: Take a high dosage. Mosquitoes hate the taste of Vit B. Food that are rich in B vitamins are egg yolk, brewer’s yeast, liver, and whole grains.
  • Vitamin C: Vitamin C at sufficiently high doses can help viral disease, enhance functions of the immune system. It strengthens the immune system and collagen. Dose 500 mg 6 x day.
  • Zinc: Assist the normal functioning of the immune system. Zinc deficiency is extremely common. Zinc is key to proper T cell and Natural Killer Cell function activity.  Dose 25mg once daily.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR DENGUE FEVER
Do not underestimate the power of acupuncture to treat pain and fever. Acupuncture and electro acupuncture leads to the release of endorphins and these are powerful natural pain killers. It also lowers inflammation, and strengthens the immune system.

Living the Alkaline Lifestyle

A slightly alkaline environment is a foundational component to optimum health.

Adopting an alkaline lifestyle is not a long-term diet.  It is a way of life.

The Alkaline Lifestyle is a revolutionary breakthrough based on the research of several 20th century chemists and health professionals who realized that cancer cells flourish in an acidic environment. This finding led them to create the theory that health could be maintained by keeping the body in an alkaline state to maintain a strong immune system and keep the bugs at bay. More people than ever before are waking up to understand that our diet and our thoughts are a huge part of the preventative healthcare system.

Is diet alone enough to maintain our health and keep us away from disease? Certainly, appropriate diet is fundamental to an alkaline pH, but our mental, emotional, and spiritual health is also necessary to create an alkaline lifestyle.

What does an Alkaline Lifestyle Mean?
The concept of living an alkaline lifestyle can be seen as a very simple approach to improving one’s health by getting the pH of the body into a slightly alkaline state where the body functions the best. But in fact there is much more than preventing disease with proper alkaline diet, and drinking the right water, doing the right exercise, etc… Above all it is a style of living that seeks to honor the wisdom of our human body and to respect the cooperative nature of each of our cells.

When we understand that we are an energy being first and foremost, and if our dominant intention is to tune in and align with the frequency of the Source within us, we can then provide the perfect foundation for the cells of our physical body to thrive.

The Alkaline Lifestyle is about creating a life of balance, and mindfulness. In chemical terms the balance is between acid and alkaline forces in the body, and in emotional terms it is about finding the peace in our mind, body, and spirit. When we are able to attain that balance, we prevent disease, we increase our vitality, slow down aging, and we find ourselves smiling more often.

image038

Different steps to live an Alkaline Life Style
1- Diet – The body is truly amazing! It is difficult to visualize how the body responds to the foods which are assimilated and the forces of life within the body itself that maintain a balanced acidity within the bloodstream and all the body tissues.

Alkalinizing foods should make up 80% of our daily diet and acidifying foods 20%. I invite you also to look at the food chart pH so you can get a visual idea of which foods are considered alkaline and acidic. There is conflicting information on the Internet about which foods are alkaline and which are acid-forming. Please feel free to investigate.

Basically, the most alkalizing foods are fresh vegetables, healthy oils, seeds, and whole grains. Fruits also have very high water content, but since they also have fructose, they are not considered as alkalizing as vegetables.

Acidic foods are those you already know are bad for you: refined foods, fast foods, trans-fats, meat, dairy, sugar, caffeine, white bread, white pasta and rice, condiments, alcohol, chocolate, chips, ice cream and pizza.

Acidic foods like lemons and grapefruit, when consumed, become alkalinizing in the body, so what is acidic in nature does not translate to increased acidity in the body. Truly acidic foods include meats, poultry, fish, sausage, dairy, white flour products, and sweets.

image0402- Tips in Living an Alkaline lifestyle

  • Start the day with an alkaline boost (homemade vegetable broth, or a glass of lemon water, alkaline punch of chlorella, spirulina, green barley, or super blue algae in your water)
  • Consume two cups of vegetables for lunch and two cups for dinner
  • Enjoy nuts, seeds, herbs and spices daily
  • Incorporate alkalizing drinks daily
  • Limit sweeteners and use them in small quantities in alkalizing forms (stevia)
  • Monitor your acid load and adjust your program as necessary
  • Be flexible, adjust your diet as necessary
  • Food is only as good as the nutrients found in the soil in which it is grown. Buy food from your local farmer as much as possible
  • Eat Mindfully. Pay attention to subtle energy shifts to know how best to fuel your body’s needs. One of the greatest challenges to our bodies is eating too much food.
  • Breathe between bites and give your body a chance to respond to the food as you ingest it. Slow down, and notice how each food affects you. Our digestive system runs best when fueled in small quantities.
  • Ask your body. Ask your gut feeling if that food offers a positive, supportive nutrition, or not. If you feel yes, then enjoy it. If you feel no, then avoid it. If you are unsure, eat only a little and move on to more certain things.
  • Enjoy proper hydration

In my clinic I see many people chronically dehydrated. Being properly hydrated with the right water makes a huge difference. It allows our body to metabolize and excrete more acidic waste from the kidneys or via the skin.

All water is not equal. Almost all bottled water is unregulated tap water. And tap water has been found to contain,  but not limited to, the following: fluoride, chlorine, radioactive contaminants, pharmaceutical drugs, and heavy  metals such as lead, aluminum and arsenic.

There are so many benefits to drinking water. It’s important to note that drinking alkaline water doesn’t give you a  free pass: it cannot neutralize consumption of lots of soda, sugar, medications, and meat/dairy—all of which are highly acidic.

Masaru Emoto, who wrote The Healing Power of Water, testifies to the potency of water and how it absorbs and reflects energetic intention; we can actually infuse it with the power, through intention and prayer, to transform  negative energy in the body and flush negative frequencies from the body and surrounding energy fields. We are such amazing powerful beings!

3,  Become a connoisseur of water – Ways to hydrateimage042

  • Drink 8-10 glasses of water each day. Drink clean water rich in natural minerals and with a healthy pH. The recommended dosage is to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water every day.
  • Drink lemon water: A glass of lukewarm, reversed osmosis or spring water with freshly-squeezed juice from 1/4 lemon helps cleanse the digestive system, ignite your metabolism and rid your body of excess acids.
  • A 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 quart of water will make even the more acidic water alkaline.
  • A pinch of Celtic sea salt or Himalayan pink salt in a glass of water helps nourish adrenal fatigue and boost alkalinity.
  • Drink organic herbal teas such as peppermint, ginger, lemongrass, and nettle.

4.  Using True Nourishment to Make lasting Changes

Adopting an alkaline lifestyle is not a long-term diet. It is a way of life

The more I am able to love and accept myself exactly as I am, the easier it is for me
to love and accept others, and feel healthy and wealthy.

Diet alone is not enough to maintain a pH balance and keep us away from illness. Certainly, exercise and good diet are fundamental to an alkaline pH, but our mental, emotional, and spiritual health is greatly contributing to create lasting health.

In this section we will encourage regular self-care practices, and ways to minimize stress in your life.

image044Exercise

The body is the vehicle through which we journey in this lifetime, and it is intended to move. Just as cars were made to run, our physical vehicle is made to move as well. Our physical body becomes “rusty” due to lack of movement when you live a sedentary life. Working out and stretching is a proven method to calm the mind and relax the body during stressful times. Hormones are release during exercise that helps us focus better, and brings us more balance. People who exercise daily also sleep better and have a stronger immune system. Exercise helps normalize your glucose, insulin, and leptin levels by optimizing their receptor sensitivity. Sweating is also a great way to support acid excretion.

image046Breathe

Deep breathing makes the blood more alkaline. Get fresh air every day. Conscious breathing allows us to stop, to let go of the monkey mind and to relax. Our breath is what continues to sustain us and give us life, our breath excites and calms us, it carries toxins out from the body, and renews us.

By doing simple breathing exercises a few times a day you give your body a huge helping hand in removing acids. In addition, with the practice of being mindful of the breath we can become aware of patterns and emotions, thoughts and beliefs. By being more in tune and aligned with our breath, we can become more peaceful, more accepting, more loving and present to what is. The best part is you can do this anytime, anywhere – and it only takes a few minutes.  Ah zone

image048Mindfulness

Our brain, our body, our nervous system and our senses comprise the profound and most elegant ‘computer’ known on earth. And yet . . . its greatest performance capacities have barely been touched. Most of us have allowed our mind to be programmed by others, and therefore we have adopted unconscious patterning and conditioning and allowed negative patterns to govern our lives.

We think all the time. We even tend to over-think. Our minds are incredible super computers that work 24/7. Our minds are capable of observation, examination, scrutiny, analysis, dissection, classification, deduction, and conclusion. But the mind is also capable of mindful awareness – a way of relating to all experience – positive, negative, and neutral in an open, receptive way. This awareness involves freedom from grasping and from wanting, or judging anything to be different. Mindfulness is a practice that encourages focusing attention on the present moment. It is a way of inhabiting one’s body, one’s mind, one’s moment-by-moment experience. It is a foundational way of being that helps us to regain and stay in balance.

The practice of mindfulness can bring many benefits to our emotional and physical health, as well as all relationships in our life. Mindfulness is also an amazing tool for stress management and overall wellness because it can be used at virtually any time and can quickly bring lasting results.

image050Inquiry

Inquiry work is a simple, effective method of getting to the root cause of an issue whether it is physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. We are able to let go of old thoughts, beliefs, vows and patterns, which can be completely cleared, and find completion through forgiveness. It takes courage and discipline to be mindful and fully present, to embrace the overwhelming complexity and intensity of our lives. Listening to our own innate wisdom and resting in the deeper truth of your being is incredibly healing and freeing, leaving you feeling free to truly be yourself.  I have witnessed incredible healing and changes in people I care for.

image052Detox

Detox is a great way to remove toxins, pathogens, overgrown yeast (candida) and parasites that have built up in our body over time. Ever-increasing air pollution, chemicals, drugs prescription and too much of the “wrong” food contribute towards free radical damage and acidosis. There are several ways to detox, however a natural and safe way to remove toxins is achieved by simply focusing on creating a pH balance in your body. By Alkalizing the body through diet and also by simply drinking alkaline water, your body will remove those harmful toxins.

image054Rest – Relaxation

Relaxation isn’t just about peace of mind or enjoying a hobby. Relaxation is a process that decreases the effects of stress on our mind and body. When you are able to find 15 minutes in every day to relax and tune to the frequency of our own Source, all resistance and hindrance will cease, the cells of our body have the opportunity to return to their natural state of Well-Being. Relaxation isn’t just about peace of mind or enjoying a hobby. Relaxation techniques can help us to cope with everyday stress and with stress related to various health issues.

image056Laughter

Whoever said laughter is the best medicine is so right.

The best thing about laughter is that it works for everybody, regardless of age, gender, or medical condition. It boosts the immune system, lowers blood pressure, improves heart and respiratory functions, regulates blood sugar, and improves physical appearance, and so much more… Personally,   I always feel more lighthearted and positive after a good laugh.

image058De-Stress

Stress is not going to disappear from our lives, but we can learn how to respond differently to stressors. Stress can affected the neuron-endocrine system, causing higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol tending towards anxiety. For example, the stress hormone, cortisol, is ‘catabolic’ in nature, which means it breaks down tissue (particularly the protein that makes up muscle) as a source of energy.  This process releases a large amount of acidic waste into the blood.  Try to avoid stress, learn to respond differently to stressors, and control negative emotions by meditating, thinking positively, and smiling more often.

Instead of corrosive thoughts that generate stress, we can use the Power of our Mind to Make Healthy Changes in our attitude, our reaction to life’s daily stressors, and our ability to release stress . Remember, thoughts are just energy, so don’t believe everything you think.  Thoughts have no power.  The power is if you say yes or no to them.  Pay attention to your thoughts and exhale deeply.

image060Sleep

The quality and quantity of your sleep are very important, this is the time when our body regenerates and heals. Our bodies need about eight hours of rest every night. Because our bodies are tuned into the natural rhythms of life, they have inner clocks that rest and rejuvenate the organs in sync with the natural world.

image062Gratitude for self and others

Feeling grateful for who we are, what we have, the bounty in our life, the things that are working, the simple pleasures, our gifts and talents, and those we love is an underestimated force. Gratefulness allows us to be present to what is, to be in our hearts, to be joyful, to be aligned with our own source, and to let go of what seems to not be working. Gratitude is the thankfulness for just being, it connects us with the essence of ourselves, and we feel a sense of  love, peace, and healing.

image064Compassion

“When you begin to touch your heart or let your heart be touched, you begin to discover that it’s bottomless, that it doesn’t have any resolution, that this heart is huge, vast, and limitless.  You begin to discover how much warmth and gentleness is there, as well as how much space.” Pema Chödrön (2001)

image068Self-Love

One of the causes of a poor self-esteem is the absence of the lack of unconditional Love. Self- love is something that needs to be demonstrated, not just talked about. Doing something every day to nourish our self, sends an important messages to our subconscious, and also to the world around us. By placing importance on taking positive actions which bring us fulfillment, we are telling ourself and others that our needs and wellbeing are important- that we matter.   The more I am able to love and accept myself exactly as I am, the easier it is for me to love and accept others, and feel healthy and wealthy.

image070Others

It is important to use therapies or services that are in alignment with your needs, and trust yourself when choosing what works for you. There are many other complimentary therapies that can support you in this journey. Yoga, Bach flower, Homeopathy, Herbs, Acupuncture, Deep tissue muscle release, Breath work, Energy Freedom Technique, and other energy psychology release work can be useful to achieve inner and outer balance in our lives. We offer these therapies at the clinic.

image072Supplements

Supplements are one of the most overwhelming and confusing parts of the alkaline lifestyle. There are so many supplements out there, all promising different things and all claiming they are better than the others. While supplements are not a substitute for a healthy diet and lifestyle, they can assist you in making your body more alkaline.

Here are some supplements I recommend:

  • Green powder Combination of powdered grasses, fruits, vegetables and sprouts with a focus on wheatgrass, chlorella, barley grass and others.
  • Electrolyte buffers of Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium work in the blood, lymph, and extra- intercellular fluids to binds acids, which are then removed through the urine.
  • Omega oils: Take an omega 3 supplement or an omega oil blend including omega-3 -6
  • Enzymes – Protozyme or Marcozyme proteolyctic enzymes
  • (Hydrochloric acid (HCL) maintains proper alkaline/acid balance. Vit B12 and folic acid will not be absorbed from food sources without the correct amount of HCL in the Stomach.
  • Ionic Mineral from Eidon, bones and extra mag, 1and 1/2 dropper 2x daily
  • Cell Food Oxygen and trace minerals (put a few drops in the water)
  • Alkala Pleo-Alkala anti acid powder Pleomorphic products (Potassium bicarbonate (7.8%, Sodium bicarbonate
  • (7.8%, Sodium citrate (1.6%) – Take it for a short period of time.
  • Celtic / Himalayan sea salt (use it in your meal)
  • Baking soda (take on empty stomach, between meals)
  • Magnesium citrate take it for short period of time (1 tablespoon upon arising and 1 tablespoon upon retiring)
  • Vit D Vitamin D prevents the buildup of calcium deposits in arteries. It is well known that calcium needs vitamin D in order to be absorbed.
  • Protein buffers of glutathione, methionine, cystine, taurine, just to name a few, act as buffers intra-cellularly to bind or neutralize acids during cellular disorganization.

Testing Saliva and Urine pH

Specific values of the urine and saliva provide valuable information about the biochemical building blocks of our body, enzymes, amino acids, and minerals. This information may help identify underlying factors or stresses that may be contributing to low energy and lack of well-being.

SALIVA TEST

image074

While generally more acidic than blood, salivary pH mirrors the blood and is also a fairly good indicator of the body and fluids.

  • Salivary pH is a fair indicator of the health of the extracellular fluids and their alkaline mineral reserves, especially calcium.
  • It is a good indicator of the condition of the lymph fluid, and for evaluating whether our body is responding to internal (mental and emotional) stimuli.
  • Saliva testing may indicate the activity of digestive enzymes in the body. These enzymes are primarily manufactured by the stomach, liver and pancreas.
  • While the saliva also utilizes buffers just like the urine, it relies on this process to a much lesser degree.

TESTING YOUR SALIVA

Materials: Testing pH paper (preferably pHhydrion paper), a plastic spoon and saliva.
Instructions:
– The most accurate reading of saliva testing is recorded immediately upon awakening – after sleeping at least 5 hrs
before food or drink or teeth brushing. Then test 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.
– Draw some saliva to stimulate new saliva – Then spit saliva into a plastic spoon.
– Tear off a one-inch strip of pH paper, place it into saliva (preferable to licking the pH Hydrion paper).
– Wait a few seconds until the pH paper changes color, and match the color of your immersed pH paper with the
color chart provided on the pH testing roll.
– Write your result in the record sheet. Write any comments that may be pertinent.
– Test 2 to 3 times a day in order to get an average reading.

Results/Indications:

  • The ideal saliva readings should be between 7.0 to 7.5.
  • Morning urine should be above pH 7. If your saliva stays between 6.8 and 7.5+ pH all day, your body is functioning within a healthy range.
  • After eating, the saliva pH should rise to 7.8 or higher. Unless this occurs, the body has alkaline mineral deficiencies (mainly calcium and Magnesium) and will not break down food very well.
  • A reading lower than 6.5 is indicative of insufficient alkaline reserves. If the saliva pH is too low (below 6.5), the body may be producing too many acids and has lost the ability to adequately remove them through the urine.
  • If the saliva is too high (over 6.8), the body may suffer from constipation, excess gas, and production of yeast, mold, and fungus.

URINE TEST

image076

The pH of the urine indicates how the body is working to maintain the proper pH of the blood.

  • The urine reveals the alkaline building (anabolic) and acid tearing down (catabolic) cycles.
  • The pH of urine indicates the efforts of the body via the kidneys, adrenals, lungs and gonads to regulate body pH balance through the buffer salts and hormones.
  • Urine can provide a fairly accurate picture of body chemistry, because the kidneys filter out the buffer salts of pH regulation and provide values based on what the body is eliminating.
  • The urine pH test provides valuable information about your alkaline reserve status, which is affected by what you eat. Urine testing may indicate how well your body is excreting acids and assimilating minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium.

TESTING YOUR URINE:

Materials: a cup, and Testing pH paper (preferably pHhydrion paper), and urine.
Instructions:
– Dip the pH test paper in the cup, shake off the excess and read immediately. Don’t place the pH test paper in the
stream as it tends to wash out the color.
– Before eating any food, test your first and second urine of the morning.
– Then check your urine between meals
– Wait a few seconds until the pH paper changes color, and match the color of your immersed pH paper with the
color chart provided on the pH testing roll
– Write your result on record sheet. Mark an “X” in the box that corresponds to your urine pH
– Write any comments that may be pertinent
– Test a few times a day in order to get an average reading

Results / Indications

  • Your first urine should run optimally between a pH 6.8 to 7.2.
  • If your first urine pH* is lower than 6.8 you are deficient in alkaline buffers.
  • If your first urine pH is higher than 7.2 your alkaline buffers are sufficient to neutralize the acidic food and drinks you ingested the day before.
  • Before eating any food, your 2nd urine should be ideally 7.2 or higher.
  • If the pH is lower than 6.8 you are in a state of latent acidosis and you are deficient of alkaline buffers such as bicarbonate, sodium, magnesium, and calcium. The lower pH is also indicative of a diet high in protein and an
increase in acids from proteins including nitric, sulfuric, phosphoric, and uric acids.

Tracking your urine and salivary pH over the course of a week, or two will provide a window into what is going on in your internal, and external world.

*We use first morning urine for assessment of the integrity of the biological environment is to quantify the acid related activities that occur during the sleep cycle. It will subsequently allow us a look at the buffering capacity of the kidney during this active elimination phase, while giving us an idea of how much acid has been produced and for how long it has been being produced.

CONCLUSION:

Traditional Chinese Medicine and a new approach in integrated Medicine focus on regulating the internal chemical balance pH. They both affirm that health is established by bringing and keeping the body’s systems in balance.

The alkaline diet is not restrictive at all, and is really simple, once you’ve gotten used to it.

image078Remember, every cell of our body has the desire to be as healthy as we want to be. We are the gardener of our body. As we begin to awaken, expand, and elevate our consciousness from a fear-based, to a love-centered frequency, our cells as ‘intelligent’ units, in their own right will respond to our most honest and loving thoughts.

Take one step at a time and be kind to yourself; it takes time to adopt an alkaline lifestyle and to be the master of our own garden. It takes focus, awareness, and desire to be healthy and to create a peaceful state of mind that supports our well-being. Let’s remind each other that success is a journey – not a destination – and the same holds true for living an Alkaline Lifestyle!

Most of the degenerative and metabolic diseases are merely the end point of progressive, accumulated, toxic waste matter suffocating a particular tissue or organ that is too stagnant, or weak to clean house.

Therefore, detox, strengthen your body, monitor your pH, take the right nutrients, and turn your attention to reflection and inquiry – feelings, perceptions, beliefs, patterns and consciousness.

To conclude this article, here are a few more words of advice

  • Treat the body with the reverence and respect it deserves. It is a wellspring of true gifts of invaluable wisdom.
  • Trust the body’s innate intelligence to take care of itself – as long as we take care of it.
  • More is not necessarily better.
  • Food is only as good as the nutrients found in the soil in which it is grown.
  • Remove / treat the cause of the problem instead of just treating the physical symptoms.
  • Build up your alkaline reserves and you will be amazed at how much better you feel.
  • Try to live in the moment, do creative projects, and spend time in nature.

Alkilosis vs. Acidosis

Acidosis is the condition wherein the body fluids have more acid (carbon dioxide) in the body and less base (bicarbonate). On the other hand, Alkalosis is a condition wherein the body fluids end up having more bases (alkali) as compared to acids. Alkalosis and acidosis are two opposite conditions. In order to function properly, our body needs to have a proper balance of acids and bases, regulated by our kidneys and lungs.image031
A highly alkaline reading is likely due to catabolism, the process of breakdown of body tissue which triggers excess nitrogen in the urine.

Given the acidic lifestyle from diet and our toxic environment, it would be difficult to have alkalosis, unless we eat nutrients, or drink water that is too alkaline for a long period of time. So the reality of being too alkaline (pH too high) exists as the product of, not the cause of, a disease.

Types and Common Causes of Alkalosis   There are different types of alkalosis that can occur in a person’s body and the causes for each type vary. A brief explanation follows.

image032Respiratory Alkalosis: When a person has very low levels of carbon dioxide in the blood due to insufficient oxygen, fever, diseases of the liver, lung diseases, etc., it is known as respiratory alkalosis. Hyperventilation is one obvious symptom of this condition.
image034Metabolic Alkalosis: The levels of bicarbonate abnormally increase in the bloodstream. The main symptom is the decrease of salt levels in the body―sodium, chloride, potassium. A blood test would confirm the condition if the body pH level is above 7.45.
– Hypochloremic Alkalosis: When the level of chloride in the blood is extremely low and the body is losing chloride due to vomiting, the person is said to have hypochloremic alkalosis.
– Hypokalemic Alkalosis: This occurs when the body loses potassium, and the kidneys respond in a manner which results in alkalosis.
– Compensated Alkalosis: As mentioned earlier, it is important for the body to maintain a balance between the acids and bases in the body. Compensated alkalosis is a condition when the body tries to re-balance both these components, however, the balance between the carbon dioxide and bicarbonate levels continue to remain abnormal.

Some Symptoms of alkalosis are:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Lightheadedness
  • Muscle spasms
  • Constipation
  • Tetany
  • Muscular weakness
  • Confusion
  • Tremors in hands
  • Muscle twitching
  • Facial numbness along with tingling sensation
  • Diarrhea
  • Breathing problems and Irritation.

The mentioned symptoms need to be identified as soon as possible, and immediate medical assistance needs to be given to the patient to avoid further complications. It is best to get started with the possible tests, as the treatment would depend upon the type of alkalosis that the person has. The doctor will suggests certain blood tests, and depending upon the severity of the condition, he/she will advise a non-alkaline diet to get the levels of acids and bases balanced. Because the symptoms of alkalosis mimic symptoms of other conditions, it should not be self-diagnosed.

Common causes of alkalosis are:

  • A high level of bicarbonate (a base) in your blood
  • Excessive loss of acid from your blood
  • Low carbon dioxide level (often caused by hyperventilation) Decreased carbon dioxide (an acid) or increased
  • Bicarbonate (a base) levels in the blood may result in alkalosis.
  • Unnatural means of alkalization such as too much Ionized alkaline water.

How to prevent Alkalosis
Reduce your risk for developing alkalosis by maintaining good health, eating a healthy diet, and staying hydrated.

  • Choose foods that are high in nutrients such as fresh fruits and vegetables, focusing on potassium-rich foods such as carrots, bananas, milk, beans, spinach, and bran.
  • Make sure you are well hydrated. Drink 8 to 10 glass of water daily. If you are an athlete or if you work out, drink water or electrolyte-replacement drinks at regular intervals to keep your electrolytes balanced.

Exploring Acid/Alkaline Imbalances

Maintaining a balanced alkaline body pH is the best prevention against aging and disease.
When we eat too much acid forming foods drink soft drinks on a daily basis we make our body acidic. Our body neutralizes acidity with stored alkaline minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. When our body is low on reserves of these minerals, the blood steals them from our tissues, organs, or bones to neutralize and eliminate strong acids. Excess acid is stored in tissue when the blood is unable to balance the overload. That’s when the lymphatic system goes to work at neutralizing the acid build-up, returning it to the blood for elimination. However, if the lymphatic system is compromised, acid continues to accumulate in tissue until it is eventually transferred into fatty tissue or organs, such as the colon, heart, liver, and pancreas.
Prolonged time in the acid pH state or acidosis may show up as a contributing factor to all degenerative diseases and autoimmune diseases, and can impact every biochemical process in the body such as:

  • Reducing energy production in the cells, slowing down cell repair.
  • Impairing the body’s ability to detoxify heavy – metals, making one more susceptible to fatigue and illness.
  • Clumping. With the live Blood Cell Analysis, we can see clearly the red blood cell stacking together into “rouleau” and the blood aggregation minimizing the surface area for oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange. The clumping makes it difficult for them to travel smoothly through the capillaries and feed the cells throughout the body. The more acidic we become, the harder it is for oxygen to be present and our biological terrain becomes more anaerobic.  Without adequate oxygenation, unfriendly bacteria, viruses, molds and fungus flourish.
  • Holding excess acid wastes that cannot be expelled fast enough leads to oxygen deprivation and cell fermentation.
  • Increasing electrical disturbance, oxygen deprivation, dehydration, cellular toxicity and poor circulation – including infections, bone and joint deterioration, digestive disturbances, which creates a favorable condition for bacteria growth, yeast and other harmful organisms.
  • Affecting enzyme activity and hormone balance that is completely dependent upon the body maintaining healthy pH levels.
  • Disturbing the oxygen affinity of hemoglobin in the blood (the blood cell’s ability to collect and transport oxygen around the body. When the body can no longer effectively neutralize and eliminate the acids, it relocates them within the body’s extra-cellular fluids and connective tissue cells directly compromising cellular integrity.
  • Impairing proper brain function and inhibiting neuron function. Neurons are nerve cells that help initiate and conduct impulses from the brain. When neurons are unable to function properly symptoms such as “brain fog,” forgetfulness, and impaired mental acuity can occur.
  • Losing minerals which causes and inflammation with pain and oversensitivity.

Acidic pH can be the result of emotional stress, immune reactions, acid-forming diets, toxic overload or other processes that deprive cells of oxygen and nutrients. The acid-alkaline balance achieved within the body is a product of the consciousness of the body’s cells themselves in their various locations and in their various conditions of health or diseases or disease.
image023Normally when the pH is unbalanced, the body uses its primary regulatory systems (breathing, perspiration, respiration, circulation and eliminations) to repeatedly bring the blood pH back into the pH range. But as the acid excess starts building up the body, the body compensates by using alkaline minerals, and triggers a buildup of acids or acidosis.
Once it has begun, the condition of acidosis within the body is like a descending spiral of stresses.  Acidity causes inflammation. Inflammation causes pain. Pain causes stress. Stress causes acidity. Acidity causes illness, and the merry-go -round continues.

What Causes Acidity in the Body?

What we feed our body have a primary influence on our health.
Diet plays a big role in contributing to hyper acidity. In recent years, our bodies have also been bombarded with processed, ready-made foods that contain large amounts of sugar, salt, dairy and unhealthy fats – all of which are very acidic and contribute many of the health problems that we see today. The biggest contributors of acid food are alcohol,
refined sugar, process food, cheese, meat, coffee and refined carbohydrates.
Thoughts and emotions have a direct effect on our internal chemistry.

How Stress/Emotions are affecting the body’s pH
Besides the acidic diet we ingest, the acid condition is also promoted by stress, emotional override, poor digestion with lack of stomach acid, and deficiency of alkaline minerals – calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium.

Many microbiologists, doctors in molecular biology, pioneers such as Antoine Bechamp, Gunter Enderlein, Gaston Naessens and others have proved, without a doubt, that germs, fungal, viruses and bacteria do not cause disease.  They simply take advantage of us when our bodies are in a weakened state and burdened by toxins, low oxygen levels, a
weakened immune system, nutritional deficiencies and an acidic pH environment.

The over-acidification of the body, due primarily to thoughts and emotions, poor way of eating and life style leads to one disease – the overgrowth in the body of microorganisms, and those toxins produce symptoms that we call diseases.
The symptoms manifest in a variety of signs and symptoms depending on the internal weaknesses of the individual.  Stress, fear/ anxiety, poor diet/ assimilation, dehydration, and sleep deprivation are the principal acid generators. We all know too well, that stress can promote strong emotions. Stress at home, stress in the work place, financial issues, kids, marital and family issues, all have an acidic effect on the pH of our physical body.
What we feed our body, and cells, and what we think is critical. Our thoughts, words, what we do or not do, and what we think and believe, do matter and affect our physiology either in a powerfully negative or positive way.

image028Dr. Candice Bert was the first one to demonstrate that our thoughts, feelings, emotions have an immediate reaction on our cells. Science has proven that each cell that makes up the body is an individual unit of intelligence and is influenced in both positive and negative ways, by the thoughts we focus our attention on the most.
Read The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton.
What we think and believe is reflected in the chemistry of our body, and our nervous system reads and interprets the environment and then controls the blood’s chemistry. This is how our thoughts become biology. It is extremely important to acknowledge that our thoughts and feelings affect, and permeate the health of our entire body.

When we are happy, loving, compassionate, at peace with our-self, we create alkaline-forming chemical reactions in the blood and tissues.
image024Conversely, emotions that are filled with anger, worry, fear, resentment, guilt, jealousy, hate, etc. … create acidic chemical reaction in the body, and make us sick, and tired.
Actually fear – of the unknown, of dying, is the most powerful and acidifying of all emotions. According to Dr. Robert Young, strong emotions have such devastating effect on the body that even if we are on the most alkaline diet, overcoming a serious health challenge may be very difficult. He say that we can create two or three times more metabolic acids from our emotional state than from ingesting highly acidic foods like dairy, animal protein, sugar and alcohol.
In addition, when emotional issues are left unresolved, and when the negative emotions are played over and over again for weeks, months, and years, the constant excess metabolic acid pouring through the body tissues will override the benefits of any good alkaline diet. If metabolic acids are not removed via urination, perspiration, defecation, and detoxification a cancerous condition may result.

There are many external sources that contribute to acidity such as:

  • Alcohol and drug use
  • Auto-immune responses
